Planning The Proposal

By Jim | November 17, 2007

My name is Jim and I created this site as a unique way to propose to my incredible girlfriend, Lia.  I’ve always felt like a marriage proposal can be serious and formal, lighthearted and fun, thrilling and crazy, or anything that matches the personalities and interests of the couple involved.  As a web professional and someone who is generally fascinated by the Internet, it made a lot of sense to incorporate something like this into my marriage proposal.  I hope this blog provides an opportunity to share with everyone the exciting times that lie ahead for Lia and me.  This assumes she will agree to marry me!  If not, this will all have been very embarassing and I will quickly delete this blog.

Lia is out on a photography job tonight, which has conveniently provided me the opportunity to work on this site.  I have a Flash designer working on the presentation that I will use for the actual proposal.  Here is the plan:

I’ve told Lia that we are going out to dinner with my mother, sister, and brother-in-law.  We’ll be dressed up and ready to leave, and just before we go, I’ll tell Lia that she needs to check her email because my sister sent her directions to the new restaurant we’re going to try out.  When she opens the email from my sister, there will be a “directions” link.  When Lia clicks on that link, the main page of this site will open and I will be standing nearby with the ring.  After she sees the Flash presentation and is totally surprised and teary-eyed, I’ll propose the old-fashioned way, on bended knee.  After that, we’ll go to dinner as planned, but to Lia’s surprise, there will be a larger group than she expected, including both of our immediate families.

Ok I have work to do.  Lia will be home soon and I need to get some things accomplished because this whole thing is planned for December 1st and I may not get much time to myself before then.  Wish me luck!
